Museum of Anthropology at UBC
Having worked with the Museum on several new media projects, the Museum of Anthropology invited Unlimited Digital to provide a proposal to update their website, giving it a new look and navigation and user interface, as well as providing a customized content management tool and objects database. The Museum was looking for a website presentation to match previous virtual exhibits, "The Respect to Bill Reid Pole" for the Virtual Museum of Canada, and "The Spirit of Islam" legacy exhibit, both designed and developed by Unlimited Digital.
Included in the projects redesign was to also add new Gift Shop area, virtual tours of the Museum galleries, as well as a Project Renewal and a Collections and Research area that includes a selected archives database.
The purpose of the technical aspects of this project was to build a number of web-based components and their corresponding administration tools that added a dynamic aspect to the web site. These dynamic features include current and past lists of news items, and future, current and past exhibition lists.
As well, Unlimited Digital specified and created a database that is used too hold the news items and exhibition information. We specified and built the file system structure for storing the uploaded images for the news and exhibition items. We then built the public web pages based on the templates provided, as well as the management tools for updating and maintaining these dynamic components of the site.
